Organic Amala Facial ~ The Spa, Four Seasons Seattle

Personally, I love the special days on the calendar created to celebrate our mothers, fathers, and the Earth. As I started looking for the perfect gift to celebrate my mom, while being true to Mother Earth that wouldn’t be a better gift than an organic Amala Facial from the eco-friendly Seattle Four Seasons Hotel.

I have been dreaming about the Amala Rejuvenating Anti-Aging Facial since I had the pleasure of experiencing it a couple of weeks ago at their luxurious Spa. As I was quietly escorted back through the dim hallway of natural stacked stone to a beautiful room bathed in warm light. As crawled onto the cozy treatment bed draped in fine linens I could feel the world melt away.

My 80 minutes of heaven started with the soothing light sound and the feel of steam warming my face and opening up my skin for the organic rejuvenating treatment. My face was gently cleansed and massaged with Amala’s amazing organic beauty line and then a series of masks were applied and removed. While each mask detoxified and clarified my skin the gentle and calming esthetician would massage my arms, hands, and feet.

The rejuvenating facial mask was removed by a damp warm towel compress that could only be justified by experiencing the warmth and weight of this heavenly wrap yourself. After my skin was toned it was hydrated with a series of specialized creams and lotions that were applied to my eyes, skin, and lips.  The Amala serums and lotions drenched my fresh skin with moisture to keep it looking fresh and young.   We are big fans of this spectacular spa and this treatment to keeps my skin supple, soft, bright, and healthy and advise you to go and try for yourself.

Lavender & Oatmeal Soap ~ LuLu Organics NYC

I usually prefer a liquid soap in the shower, that is until I tried LuLu Organic’s Lavender & Oatmeal soap.  This fabulous soap has bits of oatmeal and that seemed to gently exfoliate my body.  The organic lavender left a light, fresh, clean smell on my skin.  I used to be skeptical that bar soaps would leave my skin dry and itchy, au contraire I have been proved wrong.  You can pickup LuLu’s Oregon Tilth and USDA Organic Certified soap for $6 while you’re ordering their also organic Ruby Mint  lip balm.

Lip Balm ~ LuLu Organics NYC

Loving LuLu Organics Ruby Mint lip balm.  This ecofabulous lip balm is USDSA & Oregon Tilth Certified organic.  It leaves your lips refreshed with their combination of spearmint and peppermint oils and just a touch of ruby color.  If you prefer they also have an exotic cardamom flavor that also has mint with a hit of tangerine.  As you may have assumed its formula is free of nasty ingredients like petroleum and paraben.  You can pick yours up at these various boutiques nationwide or through their website for $12.

Ecofriendly Luxury ~ The Spa at Four Seasons Seattle

The Spa at the Four Seasons hotel is the definition of luxury and natural beauty.  You walk into their zen reception area and you feel the weight of the world fall off your shoulders.  A soft-spoken team member welcomes you and glides your tired body back to settle you into your new home for the next few hours.  She opens a large locker stocked with everything you need to relax and gives a quick overview of the amenities their sanctuary includes: saunas (yes, plural), large private shower, toiletries, tea, orange water, cold compresses, and a changing area to name a few.  After I snuggled into my robe and slippers I sat in the hot dry sauna to relax and open my mind and pores up for the organic treatment I was about to indulge in.  If you prefer, you can also choose their beautiful tiled steam room to unwind and bask in humid air.

Ten minutes before my organic Amala facial (my absolute favorite facial to-date) I relaxed in their interior lounge with a cup of hot tea and snacked on complimentary dried fruits.  If you so desire you can also enjoy a lunch from room service in this cozy, dim room.  Before I knew it, I was quietly escorted off to my organic, 80 minute Amala Amala Rejuvenating Anti-Aging facial (a lot more to come on The Spa’s Amala Facials).

After my facial, I retreated back to the gorgeous and simple locker room for a splendid warm rinse in their shower with low-water technology.  The shower was stocked with PABA-free shampoo, conditioner exactly like the famous L’Occitane Verbena fragrance.  I wrapped back up in the cozy robe and pampered myself with the body lotions and other toiletries they make available for their patrons.  I lingered and primped probably longer than anyone else ever has, but I just had to get my fill of the serenity they offered.

If you are visiting the fabulous spa as a guest of the hotel or purchaser of one of their spa packages, you are welcome to all amenities that the property has to offer, like the Energy Star rated equipment and televisions in the Fitness Center.  Afterwards, take a dip in the rooftop infinity pool with its spectacular views of the Puget Sound.  Perhaps enjoy a fresh lunch from the restaurant with ease, knowing that any morsel left behind will be composted.

The Four Seasons Hotel and The Spa masterly operates green and luxury simultaneously and fluidly.  Approximately 70 percent of the energy consumed within the hotel is renewable and it uses steam produced from Seattle Steam Co. for heating and for their hot water, to help reduce their environmental footprint.  Who ever says luxury can’t be green, hasn’t had my experience….yet.

Petal Accents Blush ~ Aveda

We are big fans of eco-friendly Aveda’s Shimmer Shell blush and bronzer in their new Sea Blossoms line for summer.  The warm pink and golden tones are a great cheek highlighter for any skin tone.  The palette has light scents of organic lavender and is mineral oil and talc free.  You have to love that Aveda stays true to the details too, the packaging is 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) clamshell and paper sleeve.  Pick yours up at the Gary Manuel Salon or at any Aveda store  for $24.

Acne Roller Ball Spot Stick ~ Yes to Tomatoes

About the same time, every month, I have a few of  ugly blemishes that  like to show up on my face and try to ruin my day.  My skin is very sensitive, especially to anything with high concentrations to combat unsightly “bumps”.  Based on a recommendation from a friend, I started using, Yes to Tomatoes Acne Roller Ball Spot Stick.   The stick itself is quick and easy to aim and is very effective with Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree, that starts diminishing  my “bumps” on contact.  The blend of Ginger Root and Bisabolol also in their formulas is clinically proven to reduce the redness around the blemish.

I previously applied these messy drops on my finger and I always  felt like I was adding oil from my fingers to the solution and “bump”.   The spot stick has handy roller ball at the tip that allows you to target and treat breakout “bumps” without using your hands to apply the formula, reducing added dirt and bacteria that may be on your hands.   My skin is very sensitive and will get irritated easily, but the ingredients in the Yes To acne stick doesn’t cause any reactions on my skin and reduces my bumps in a couple of days.  On top of that, my previous “bump” treatment was expensive, the Yes to Tomatoes spot stick is only $10.

If you aren’t familiar with the, Yes To brand, try it out.  They use vitamin packed organic fruits and veggies in their recipes and are always free of harmful ingredients like petroleum, SLS & parabens, and phthalates free.  I religiously use the biodegradable Yes To Cucumber Facial Towelettes at night when I am too tired to do my face care regiment, after yoga, on a road trip, etc, etc.

Sea Blossoms ~ Aveda

How we adore spring, the flowers bloom, we shed layers of clothing and add colors back to our wardrobe.  With this glorious change of the season comes fresh hues in makeup. The amazing and ecofriendly Aveda released a palette of eyeshadows inspired by soft, seaside hues, the Sea Blossoms collection is awash in pastels of pink, coral, violet and blue. Infusions of heavier grays and greens intermix with velvety tones to compose warm spring and summer looks.

I popped into my local award-winning Aveda spa, Gary Manuel, for an application of the new colors from their friendly and knowledgable makeup artist, Drew.  She professionally applied the sea grass shades to my lids with an array of other naturally derived makeup products by Aveda.  Drew and her masterful application techniques will be in our arsenal of videos on the Living Aware Channel.

My fresh spring look received compliments all day and the Aveda Petal Essence Eye Color Trios provide crease-resistant color with aromatic flower waxes of jasmine and geranium to create a petal-soft texture that magnifies and blends effortlessly. I can attest that the satin like, lightweight formula applies evenly and sets fabulously to deliver color that remains true throughout the day.  If you can believe it gets even better the shadows are delicately scented with a light floral aroma that is released from the natural waxes.  The two Sea Blossoms Collections are available in Sea Grass and Violet Coast for a limited time for only $24.

As we have continuously reported, Aveda creates quality, botanically based products while continuously seeking to conduct business in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Shampure ~ Aveda

It must seem like we are really in love with Aveda since this is the second product we are featuring on Living Aware, but we just couldn’t resist signing the praises of  the Shampure™ shampoo and conditioner line for our hair.   The gentle shampoo cleans and strengthens my locks with their Morikue™ protein.     The conditioner adds softness, shine,  and doesn’t weigh my hair down.  Their biodegradable ingredients and natural aromas create a signature scent unlike the contrived chemical smells in other brands, gag.  All of Aveda’s ingredients are naturally-derived from plants and non-petroleum minerals, inorganic or other natural sources like water.   Here is some information we borrowed directly from their site to show you just how awesome this company really is:

Tips to Keep Your Face Looking Young

If you want your face to keep its youthful appearance here are a few tips from our fountain.

  • Don’t chew gum, choose a mint instead.  The motion of chewing gum causes your jaw muscles to enlarge besides looking tacky.
  • Consume lots of water to keep your skin and body nourished.
  • Avoid drinking from a straw, the puckering causes wrinkles around your mouth.  The same wrinkles caused from smoking a cigarette, obviously a bigger no-no.
  • Sleep on your back so you are not smooshing your face every night for 7 to 8 hours.
  • Wash your face every night, even if it is just with a facial wipe to remove oil and dirt from your skin.
  • Sunblock, enough said.
  • Remember, You Are What You Eat, a healthy diet keeps your skin healthy and looking great.
